Abstract | R-mode oscillations occurring in compact stars have been identified as viable and promising targets for continuous gravitational wave searches. The interesting fact about the r-modes is that they allow us to probe the interior structure and composition of compact stars directly. As well as emitting gravitational wave, r-modes would strongly affect the thermal and spin evolution of compact stars. We are going to review the theory about the gravitational wave driven r-mode instability in a rapidly rotating compact star in this paper. In particular, we will focus on r-mode instability window, r-mode evolution and delectability of r-mode. |
