Abstract | In this letter, a transparent liquid antenna using multilayer dielectric structures for future Internet of Things (IoT) communications is proposed. The antenna consists of ionic liquids (ILs), a transparent conductive film (TCF), and a multilayer resin container. To achieve the superdirectivity of the antenna, a multilayer dielectric model is created, and the electromagnetic fields are analyzed. The radiation principle of the superdirective antenna is demonstrated by the multilayered asymmetric surface plasmon resonance phenomenon. The ILs with different permittivities are injected into the multilayer dielectric layer, and they can excite the high-order leaky mode. The measured results agree well with simulated results with a slight deviation, which shows that the operating band covers 12.76 GHz to 17.3 GHz with a maximum gain of 15.1 dBi. Moreover, by using a TCF instead of a ground plane, it is possible to achieve overall transparency without affecting the operating performance. The antenna can be transformed into various decorations, satisfying the demand for large data capacity and high transmission rates. The proposed antenna offers a novel combination of aesthetics and functionality for millimeter-wave IoT communications. |
