AbstractSince the beginning of the new century exploration of the Moon became a new frontier of science, technology and business, with new members like China, Japan, ESA and India joining in. New orbiters and landers have been launched, and future sample return and longterm lunar base missions are planned. However, the current knowledge of the Moon does not quite meet the new demands. Knowledge about the rotation and internal structure of the Moon is among the scientific problems, which are not fully solved. Scientific research in this field can contribute to increasing safety, energy efficiency, and precision of control in lunar missions. In order to realize the program of future Chinese lunar landing and manned returning missions the National Astronomical Observatories of China (NAOC), CAS, carry out investigations aimed at improving the lunar rotation ephemeris and revealing the lunar internal structure and evolution, study comparative dynamics of the solar system terrestrial planets, the lunar physical libration (LPhL), and new detection methods. A series of radio link experiments has been carried out in China in cooperation with international institutions. Besides, some effects of lunar physical libration on activities of the future lunar surface bases are also being investigated.
